Sea Gull men's track & field team moves up to No. 3 in the country, still No. 1 in region
NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national and regional rankings were released on Wednesday, with the Salisbury University men’s track team keeping a hold on its No. 1 spot in the Mideast Region and moving up two spots to No. 3 in the nation.
In the national poll, the Sea Gulls received 112.79 points to move up to No. 3 from the No. 5 spot they occupied last week. The previous No. 3 team, Whitworth University, drops to No. 4, and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, last week’s No. 4 team, replaces Salisbury at No. 5. McMurry University and North Central University (Ill.) remain ahead of the Sea Gulls at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
The Sea Gulls received 331.31 points to stay atop the regional poll. They have held the No. 1 spot for all five weeks of the season. Haverford College remained behind Salisbury at the No. 2 spot, a ranking which they have held for the past three weeks. Moving up seven spots from No. 10 to No. 3 was Dickinson College which joined the top five teams for the first time this season. No. 4 Moravian College and No. 5 DeSales University finished out the top five.
The Salisbury women’s team dropped one spot in the region from No. 3 to No. 4, receiving 238.49 points in the poll. Johns Hopkins University flipped spots with the Sea Gulls, moving up to No. 3 from No. 4. The other top five teams remained the same with No. 1 Moravian College, No. 2 Haverford College and No. 5 Messiah College.
The Sea Gulls will be in action again on Saturday at Christopher Newport University for the New Captain’s Classic. The start is set for 10 a.m.
