Beebe comes up .08 seconds short of school record at USA Outdoor Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa – Things may not have gone exactly the way he wanted, but recent Salisbury University graduate Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio) will be able to proudly say he is one of the best 400-meter hurdlers in the United States following a dream trip to the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Drake University.
After getting through the first round on Thursday, Beebe ran in the semifinals Friday night, posting a time of 50.74 seconds, .08 seconds off of his personal and school record, but it was not quite fast enough to qualify for Saturday’s finals. Beebe’s time put him in 11th place and was .40 seconds short of advancing to the championship race, which will be run at 2:18 p.m.
Beebe closes his career as the only Salisbury University student-athlete to ever qualify for the national meet and certainly made the most of his time in Salisbury. Beebe won back-to-back 400-meter hurdle national championships in 2009 and 2010, helping his team finish fourth and second in the nation in those years, respectively. He was a three-time All-American while wearing maroon and gold and holds five individual school records and is part of three relay records.
One of those individual school records is in the 400-meter hurdles where he ran the race in 50.66 seconds at the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 15 this season. That time qualified him for the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
