Salisbury men's track & field team named Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – The Salisbury University men’s track & field team proved to be as successful in the classroom as they were in competition this year. Sending a trio of athletes to the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Sea Gulls placed second in the nation. On Wednesday the team's success in action and in the classroom led to it being named the Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

For a squad to be named an All-Academic Team, it must post a team grade-point average 3.1 or higher, the Sea Gulls finished the 2009-10 academic year with a 3.141 team GPA. The announcement comes after senior Brandon Fugett (Randallstown, Md.) was named to the USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Team last week.

This season Salisbury was represented on the track and field with three individual national champions while senior Cory Beebe (Media, Ohio) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year. Salisbury had 45 combined All-CAC performers and 65 All-Mason-Dixon Conference performers.
