Salisbury men's track & field still top team in Mideast Region; women move up to No. 3
NEW ORLEANS – Coming off a sweep of the Capital Athletic Conference track & field championships, the Salisbury University men’s and women’s track teams got the new United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings and the teams remained among the best in the Mideast Region and the men are still near the top of the national rankings.
The Salisbury women, who earned their first CAC title last weekend, moved up a spot in the Mideast Region, climbing to No. 3 with 260.90 points. The Sea Gulls are climbing toward the top teams in the region, as Moravian College (299.33 points) sits in the top spot and Johns Hopkins University (276.38) is the No. 2 team in the region.
The Sea Gull men remain the top team in the Mideast Region and sit at No. 6 in the country. Nationally Salisbury has 100.44 points, less than 10 points from being in the top four teams. McMurry University (236.31 points) holds onto the top spot in the nation while North Central (Ill.) College (153.29), Whitworth University (128.95), University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (109.08) and Augustana (Ill.) College (108.87) round out the top five.
The Salisbury men, with 366.23 points, extended their lead in the Mideast Region, as the second-ranked team from Haverford College has just 235.08 points.
A handful of Sea Gull athletes are spending the weekend in Philadelphia for the historic Penn Relays. The Salisbury teams will return home next Friday and Saturday, April 30 and May 1, to host the Mason-Dixon Championships.
