NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track &
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced
its 2009 Division III women's scholar teams and the Salisbury
University women's track & field program was honored. The Sea
Gulls were one of 100 Division III programs to be honored by the
USTFCCCA.
The Sea Gulls were one of two Capital Athletic Conference
programs to be recognized as Hood College women's track & field
team was also named a scholar All-Academic team.
The Sea Gulls had another strong season as they finished second
at the CAC Championships on April 18. For their hard work the
women's program took All-CAC honors in fifteen events and freshman
Jennifer Houghton was named CAC Co-Rookie of the
Year. On May 2, the Gulls brought home a fourth place finish at the
Mason-Dixon Championships at Frostburg, Md.
The selection of the Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is
based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with
the top honor going to the team that had the combination of best
overall finish at the respective Division III Indoor or Outdoor
National Championships and cumulative GPA.
To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.100 cumulative
grade-point average.
