Salisbury performs well in final tune-up before CAC championships

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Salisbury University men's and women's track and field teams participated in their final tune-up meet before next weekend's highly anticipated Capital Athletic Conference championships in Fredericksburg, Va. Salisbury's men's team is the five-time defending conference champions while the women will look to improve upon last year's second place finish.

To prepare the teams for the CAC championships the Sea Gulls headed north this weekend to Pennsylvania where they performed well at the West Chester University Invitational. There was no team scores recorded at this invitational.

The Sea Gull men were led by the outstanding performances of junior thrower Brandon Fugett and junior sprinter Cory Bebee. Fugett, the reigning CAC Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, nailed down SU's only first-place finish when he participated in the discus throw and heaved it 45.39 meters. His final throw was over two meters farther than the closest competitor. Bebee picked up a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash when he crossed the finish line with a time of 49.75 seconds. The Sea Gulls were also paced by the fifth-place performances of sophomore hurdler Jesse Kolodziejski (110-meter hurdles, 15.74 seconds) and junior sprinter Quentin Briscoe (long jump, 6.01 meters).

The Salisbury women's team saw several members of its team have solid outings as well. Senior jumper Jenn Bulger was the top finisher for women with a second-place finish in the heptathlon (3658 points). Freshman thrower Holly Defnet was fourth in the triple jump (10.04 meters) while junior jumper Lindsey Metzler was fifth in the long jump (4.62 meters). Freshman thrower Jennifer Houghton also claimed a fifth-place finish in the shot put as she heaved the weight at total of 10.87 meters.
