Spriggs, Fugett set meet records at Swat Last Chance Meet
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Juniors Delannie Spriggs and Brandon Fugett led the Salisbury University men's track and field team at the Swat Last Chance Meet on Monday evening at Swarthmore College as the duo set two meet records and one Swarthmore track record.
Spriggs finished first in the 100-meter dash and set both the Swarthmore track record and the Swat Last Chance Meet record with a time of 10.65 seconds. Spriggs also had a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.79 seconds. He automatically qualified in the 100-meter dash for the NCAA national championships when he ran a 10.55 at the Mason Dixon Outdoor Championships. He also provisionally qualified in the 200-meter dash with his time of 21.77 seconds at the same meet.
Fugett finished first in the shot put and set the meet record with a distance of 15.78 meters. He had a fifth-place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 42.60 meters. Fugett qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships in both the shot put throw and the discus throw. He qualified in the shot put throw with a distance of 16.82 meters at the CNU New Captain's Classic and in the discus throw with a distance of 49.16 meters at the Penn Invitational.
Salisbury had three third-place finishes at the Swarthmore meet. Junior hurdler Cory Beebe finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.08 seconds. He provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships at the Wake Forest Open with a time of 14.79 seconds.
The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Paul Moore, freshman Xzavier Robertson, Spriggs and junior Wayne Turner and the 4x400 meter relay team of Beebe, Spriggs, Moore and junior Quentin Briscoe both finished third in their events with times of 42.47 seconds and 3:23.59 minutes, respectively. The 4x100 team qualified provisionally for the championships at the CAC Championships with a time of 41.85 seconds and the 4x400 team qualified provisionally at the CNU New Captain's Classic with a time of 3:16.41 minutes.
SU concludes the regular-season and will now await the official word from the NCAA about who will compete at the national championships from May 21-23 at Marietta College in Ohio.
