Beebe, Fugett and Spriggs qualify for 2009 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships
INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA released its participants for the 2009 NCAA Division III men's and women's track and field outdoor championships which will begin on Thursday, May 21, in Marietta, Ohio, and three Salisbury University men's track and field student-athletes will compete in four different events.
Capital Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year Brandon Fugett qualified for the men's discus throw and the shot put. Fugett qualified for the discus throw at the Penn Invite on April 4 with a throw of 49.16 meters. Fugett was part of a pool of provisional qualifiers that were invited in this event. The Randallstown, Md., native also provisionally qualified for the men's shot put throw with a toss of 16.82 meters in the Christopher Newport University Captain's Classic on May 9. That throw was the fourth best in all of Division III this season.
Junior All-American Cory Beebe was one of four runners to automatically qualify for the NCAA championships with a time of 52.60 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. Beebe qualified for the event at the 115th annual Penn Relays on April 24.
Sea Gull junior All-American Delannie Spriggs automatically qualified for the NCAA championships at the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships on May 2 with a time of 10.55 seconds. This is the third straight year for Spriggs at nationals as he finished sixth in 2007 and was hampered by an injury last season.
The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will run from May 21-23 with a total of 688 participants in attendance. Marietta College is the host for the 2009 track and field championships.
