Spriggs takes home two Track Athlete of the Week awards

YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners on March 25 and Salisbury University junior sprinter Delannie Spriggs was named co-recipient of the Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. The awards didn't stop there for Spriggs who was named the Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Track Athlete of the Week. This is the first ECAC award for the SU track and field program this season.

Spriggs and the Sea Gulls traveled to Winston Salem, N.C., last weekend to compete in the two-day Wake Forest Open. The meet featured 40 different schools from all three NCAA divisions including NAIA and over 1,200 student-athletes. The Owings, Md., native won the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.57 seconds. That time tied Spriggs' own school record in the event and provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA outdoor championships. In Saturday's 100-meter final, Spriggs won the event with a time of 10.79 seconds.

Spriggs shares the CAC award with Wesley College senior Larry Beavers. This is the second time this spring that a SU track and field athlete has received this recognition as junior Cory Beebe won the award on March 10.

Salisbury will next compete in the Maryland Terrapin Invitational on Saturday, March 28, on the University of Maryland campus in College Park, Md.
