WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Salisbury University
men's and women's track and field teams participated in their final
tune-up meet before next weekend's highly anticipated Capital
Athletic Conference championships at York, Pa. Salisbury's men's
team is the four-time defending conference champions while the
women will look to dethrone University of Mary Washington from the
top spot.
To prepare the teams for the CAC championships the Sea Gulls
headed north Saturday to Pennsylvania where they performed well at
the West Chester University Invitational. There was no team scores
recorded at this invitational.
Sophomore Delannie Spriggs continues to get
better and better week in, week-out as he posted his fastest time
this season in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.81 seconds. He
finished second overall even though his time was tied with the
first-place time. Spriggs also ran in the 200-meter dash where he
also ran his fastest time this season in that event with a time of
22.34 seconds. Salisbury also took third and fourth place as
seniors Samuel Singleton and Kevin
Teal finished with times of 22.40 and 22.44 seconds,
respectively.
Singleton, the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field
Athlete of the Week, placed second in the 400-meter dash with a
time 48.98 seconds. Sophomore Quentin Briscoe came
in second in the 400-meter hurdles (56.66 seconds) and junior
Zack Dickerson was second in the 1,500-meter run
(4:16.55).
Salisbury's men's team also had a strong showing the field
events. Junior Bobby Price won the high jump with
a leap of 6 feet, 2 ¾ inches. Sophomore Adam
Cook was third in the same event as he cleared six feet
and ¾ inches. Sophomore Christian Adami
took second in the javelin with a throw of 175 feet and nine
inches. Sophomore Brandon Fugett placed in two
events. He was second in the hammer (134 feet) and third in the
discus (130 feet, 11 inches).
On the women's side, junior Jenn Bulger took
second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.17 and
was third in the high jump (four feet, 11 inches) as she just
missed the five foot threshold. Freshman Charlese
Phillips finished third in the 100-meter dash (13.01
seconds). In the field events, Salisbury junior Rachel
Knapstein took third place in the pole vault as she was a
half inch shy of nine feet.
