SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University track
and field team had a very successful day at the Sea Gull Opener on
a rain-soaked Saturday as they hosted their first outdoor meet of
the season. As the team's lone home meet, the maroon and gold
welcomed Capital Athletic Conference foes Gallaudet University,
Hood College and York (Pa.) College along with Gloucester County
College, Howard Community College, Montgomery College, Shenandoah
University and Southern Virginia University to the SU track and
field complex.
The Sea Gulls took home 16 first place finishes led by sophomore
Christian Adami's javelin throw of 58.30 meters
(over 191 feet) which made the provisional mark for the 2008 NCAA
Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
Sophomore Brandon Fugett won two field events
as he was tops in the men's hammer (38.82 meters) and the men's
shot put with a 12.68 meter throw. He also finished second in the
men's discus with a throw of 29.84 meters.
In the men's long jump event, sophomore Preston
Paul's 5.88 meter jump placed him in first. Fellow
jumper sophomore Brandon Lane took home first
place in the triple jump (13.11 meters).
Sophomore Bill Nastasiak's 10:30.1 finish
placed him at the top in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase. In
other men's running events, freshman Shawn Phillip
took first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.5).
On the women's side, junior Jenn Bulger took
home a pair of first place finishes and a pair of second place
finishes in the hurdles, high jump and long jump. Bulger's 17.0
second time in the 100 high hurdles and 1:10.7 time in the 400 IM
hurdles was enough to win the respective events. Her 1.47 meter
jump placed her second in the high jump event as did her 4.83 meter
jump in the women's long jump competition.
Junior Kelly Sullivan placed first in the
women's 3,000 meter steeplechase with an 11:55.6 finish.
The women's team continued to dominate running events as senior

meter dash (1:03.9) and placed second in the women's 200 meter dash
(29.2 seconds).

100 meter (12.9 seconds), Liz Tollett took the
women's 800 meter run (2:41.3) and Masha Berge
