DURHAM, N.C. - The Salisbury
University men's and women's track and field teams competed in the
Duke Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium on April 4 and 5. The
field was comprised of numerous teams, both partial and full
squads, from across the country in the Division I dominate
invitational.
Salisbury's men's 4x100 meter relay team continued their
outstanding season by breaking their old school record set just a
few weeks ago. The team comprised of seniors Samuel
Singleton and Kevin Teal along with
sophomores Justin Acker and Delannie
Spriggs finished the race with a time of 41.19 seconds.
Their time is the second fastest in Division III this season and
the best time this season shaving .14 seconds off from their
previous record-setting time. The time was good enough for second
place behind East Carolina University which ran it in 40.72
seconds. Salisbury finished in front of notable teams such as
Wilmington, Kent State and Emory.
Singleton finally owns the 400-meter dash school record for
Salisbury as he posted a time of 48.74 passing Jason Anderson who
set the record back in 1994. Earlier this season Singleton tied
Anderson's record at the Emory Invitational with a time 49.14.
The 4x400 meter relay team recorded the fastest time in the Jim
Jones era (nine seasons) with a time of 3:23.24. The team consisted
of senior Colton Vander Vliet, Singleton, junior
Josh Michael and sophomore Quentin
Briscoe.
Spriggs tied his season's best time in the 100-meter dash
running a 10.90 which was good enough for fourth place in the
event. Acker came in 16th out of 64 runners with a time 11.22
seconds.
Senior Eric Graves posted his best time this
season in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:08.84 which is over
23 seconds faster then his time at the Emory University
Invitational on March 22. Michael finished the 800-meter run with a
time of 1:57.56.
For the women's team, senior Casey McInerny
recorded her best time this season in the 1,500-meter run with a
time of 4:54.94. Freshman Charlese Phillips ran in
the 200-meter dash and finished with a season best time of 27.01
seconds. Junior Kelly Sullivan finished ninth
overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:15.97
which is more then 26 seconds fastest than her time at Emory three
weeks ago.
