NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - For the second straight
week the Salisbury University men's and women's track and field
teams attacked their respective indoor school record books. On
Saturday, three more records changed names as the Sea Gulls
competed in Christopher Newport University's prestigious Vince
Brown Invitational at the Freeman Center. No team scores were
recorded in this invitational that featured Division I and III
schools along with professional club teams from Virginia,
Maryland the District of Columbia.
Junior Kelly Sullivan broke the oldest school
record on the day. She ran a 10:54.72 in the 3,000 meter run which
surpassed the old mark of 11:00.29 set in 2001 by Scottie Morris.
This is the second indoor school record Sullivan holds. She is the
5,000 meter run (18:53.03) record holder as well.
Senior Samuel Singleton broke the school record
in the 400 meter dash (52.09) last week at the Thomson Invitational
at the University of Delaware. Singleton's time knocked teammate
Colton Vander Vliet's name off
the books for a week. Vander Vliet regained the record Saturday as
he clocked in with a time of 52.03.
Sophomore Justin Acker set a new school record
in the 55 meter dash as he edged out the old mark of 6.62 (set by
Marcus Tines in 2004) by two tenths of a second with a time of
6.60.
Senior Eric Graves was two seconds off the
school mark in the mile run as he finished fourth overall with a
time of 4:23.77. William & Mary swept the top three spots in
that event.
The SU track and field teams will make a return trip to the
Freeman Center for the Mason-Dixon Indoor Championships on
Saturday, February 23.
