May 18, 2008 Five Sea Gulls selected to compete in NCAA track and field championships INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA released its qualifying
athletes for the 2008 NCAA Division III men's and women's track and
field championships which will begin Thursday, May 22, in Oshkosh,
Wis., and five Salisbury University men's track and field
student-athletes were included.
The 4x100 relay team of sophomores Justin Acker
and Delannie Spriggs along with seniors
Samuel Singleton and Kevin Teal
will run the preliminary race on Thursday, May 22, at 4 p.m. with
the finals set to take place on Saturday, May 24 at 1:10 p.m.
"We are fourth [in the nation] going in. They are really working
well together," said SU coach Jim Jones. "We had a
great practice this past week. Hopefully we can make the final and
do some damage there."
Acker (18th) and Spriggs (21st) were also selected to compete in
the men's 100-meter dash competition and will run preliminaries on
Friday, May 23, at 6:05 p.m. with the final on Saturday at 2:40
p.m. Spriggs, the only returning Sea Gull to the NCAA national
championships, earned All-American status for his performance last
season in the 100.
"Delannie is the veteran now. He ran there last year," said
Jones.
Sophomore Christian Adami will round out the Sea
Gulls' competitors as he'll throw the javelin in the preliminary
and finals on Saturday at Noon. Adami was the last javelin thrower
selected.
"You need one good performance to get to the national meet but then
you need to have another good performance at nationals," said
Jones.
This year's national championship is being hosted by UW-Oshkosh
at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium from May 22-24.
