ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's and women's swim teams hit the road on Saturday afternoon to face off against Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's (Md.) College, the final regular-season CAC opponent for the Sea Gulls. It was a close call for the men, whose strong finish in the final event of the meet gave them a narrow 104-101 victory. The Sea Gull women fell to the Seahawks, 133-72.

Salisbury's men (5-4, 4-2 CAC) racked up the points, along with a slew of first and second place finishes, against St. Mary's. The Sea Gulls were led by junior Tim Metcalf (Baltimore, Md.), who finished first in two events: the 100-yard freestyle (52.26 seconds) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.35).

The maroon and gold trailed going into the 22nd and final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay. Salisbury packed a 1-2 punch, with the two relay teams finishing first and second to give the Sea Gulls the three-point victory. The first-place relay, which was comprised of freshmen Eric Robichaud (Annapolis, Md.) and Paul Zoli (Fallston, Md.), as well as sophomores Jason Preston (Pasadena, Md.) and Steve Eyler (Gambrills, Md.), finished the race with a time of 1:32.56.

The women's side (4-5, 3-3 CAC) saw an individual first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, as sophomore Katie Fitzenreiter (Columbia, Md.) posted a time of 5:32.35. Additionally, the women's relay team comprised of sophomores Kelly Closs (New Providence, N.J.) and Jenna Petrella (Marlton, N.J.), along with junior Katy Turner (Salisbury, Md.) and senior Angie Hammond (York, Pa.), took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Sea Gulls will travel to Washington, D.C. on Jan. 30 to square off against Catholic University. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
