Salisbury cleans up CAC Swimming Athlete of the Week Awards

YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference swimming athlete of the week awards on Tuesday and Salisbury University swept the two honors. Senior Raienne South was named the women's swimming recipient and junior Mike Ferrari was named the men's swimming recipient for the week of January 13. The two honors are the first for the SU swimming teams this season.

Last weekend, both the SU men's and women's swim teams recorded wins over CAC foe Hood College and in-state rival Frostburg State University in Frederick, Md.

South won two individual events and was part of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:48.23) in Saturday's victories. The Rockville, Md., native won the 200-yard free (2:06.60) and the 500-yard free (5:48.59) events as the Sea Gulls improved their overall record to 6-3 and 3-2 in the CAC this season.

Ferrari won two individual events and was part of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:36.00) as the Sea Gulls swept Hood and Frostburg State. The Columbia, Md., product won the 200 IM (2:12.28) and the 200 breaststroke (2:37.41) as he was one of three Sea Gulls to win or place in three different events.

Salisbury is off this week before the Sea Gulls prepare for back-to-back home meets at the Maggs Center. The Sea Gulls will welcome CAC rival St. Mary's (Md.) College on Saturday, January 24, at 1 p.m. followed by a visit by former conference member Catholic University of America on Saturday, January 31, at 1 p.m.
