Catholic sweeps Salisbury, snaps win streaks

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's swimming team made a bid for a third consecutive Capital Athletic Conference win but came up short against Catholic University, 146-114, on Saturday afternoon at the Maggs Center. The SU men's team was also on the losing end of their meet with CUA, 151-99, erasing a chance for the Sea Gulls to win back-to-back meets for the first time this season.

Senior Laura Allen led the SU women's team (4-5, 3-3 CAC) with three first-place finishes. Allen won the 100 breaststroke (1:20.15), 200 breaststroke (2:49.99) and the 400 IM (5:36.50). Senior Hilary Yates was the other individual first-place winner for SU as she won the 400 freestyle (5:02.06).

The SU men's team (3-6, 2-4 CAC) had three different swimmers take home first-place honors. Senior Mike Fowler won the 50 freestyle (25.19), junior Ross Spangler touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (2:06.19) while sophomore Brad Buckley won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.84).

Salisbury will next be in action on Saturday, January 20, against St. Mary's (Md.) in a critical CAC meet. This is the last home meet for the season for the Sea Gulls and their seniors.
