Margie Knight joined an elite group of softball coaches in 2007 when she won her 400th career game here at Salisbury University. Knight became the 34th NCAA Division III softball coach ever to win 400 games. Her career record is now 413-105-2 in 11 seasons at SU . Knight's winning percentage of .796 ranks fourth all-time in Division III and 10th all-time in NCAA history in any division. Knight has led the Sea Gulls to 11 straight Capital Athletic Conference championships (the program has won 12 overall) and 11 consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament. In addition, SU has made five appearances in the College World Series where they were national runner-ups in 2003 and 2005.

In 2007, Knight led the Gulls to their 11th straight 30-win season as the maroon and gold reached the NCAA regional round and finished the season 39-9. Knight coached the CAC Player and Rookie of the Year in All-American (third team) shortstop Kelly Waskewicz. SU had eight players earn All-CAC honors and four players earn All-Region honors.

Under her leadership, the Sea Gull softball team has enjoyed four of the most successful seasons (2002-05) in the program's history as they made trips to the Division III World Series in consecutive seasons. During that four-year span SU finished as national runner-up in 2003 and 2005 and finished ranked third in the country in '04. In '02 Salisbury completed its first of four straight 40-win seasons by ending the year ranked seventh in the nation. In only her second season as head coach, Knight took the Sea Gulls to their first World Series appearance in 1998 as SU finished the year 36-10 and ranked fourth in the nation. Knight averages nearly 38 wins a season since taking over the program at her Alma Mater in 1997.

Knight has been recognized by her peers as the CAC Coach of the Year six times (1997, '98, 2000, '03, '04, '05) and had her coaching staff recognized as the Regional Coaching Staff of the Year five times (1999, 2001, '03, '04, '05).

In addition to her duties as the softball coach, Knight also serves as the head coach of the volleyball team. The volleyball team has won three CAC championships under the tutelage of Knight and advanced to the NCAA tournament three times.

A 1979 graduate of the University, Knight returned to her Alma Mater after building an impressive resume at the prep level. She won state high school championships in both softball and volleyball during her 13-year head coaching career at North Caroline. The Bulldogs captured the state softball title in 1988 and 1991, and won the state volleyball championship in 1990. Knight compiled a 392-77 combined record in the two sports during her tenure, a winning percentage of over 83%.

A native of Catonsville, MD, Knight was no stranger to athletic success as a collegiate athlete at Salisbury University. She was a four-year letterwinner in women's basketball and a three-year letterwinner in both softball and volleyball. Additionally, Knight served as a team captain for two years in each of those sports. She was also named MVP of the basketball squad twice and MVP of the softball team as a senior. In recognition of her outstanding collegiate career, she was inducted into the Salisbury Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995.
