Softball tops Lynchburg in doubleheader's first game
The Salisbury University softball team picked up a win in the first game of its doubleheader against No. 19 Lynchburg College on Friday, March 9 at Sea Gull Softball Stadium. The Sea Gulls scored twice in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run home run by senior LeAnne Collins, her second homer of the season. The Hornets took a 5-2 lead in the fifth, but Salisbury was able to get back-to-back doubles from Dakotah Fraley and Annie Pietanza to get back to within a run. Down 5-4, Madeira Alexander’s single tied the game before this cue shot by Kristen Yanarella gave Salisbury the lead. Alexis Layton made the lead stand up, striking out one in relief to pick up her third win. Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, March 10, hosting the University of Rochester, beginning at noon.
