How we got here
The Sea Gulls (30-13) have won their first two games in the regional, topping Moravian and Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University. After defeating Moravian 3-2 in extra innings, Salisbury held off a late push from Johnson & Wales for a 7-6 win. The Sea Gulls got home runs from Amelia Trotter, Dakotah Fraley, and Madeira Alexander in the victory.
How they got here
After falling to Salisbury in the first game, the Greyhounds (34-6) bounced back with wins against The College of New Jersey and Johnson & Wales, eliminating each team. In the victory against TCNJ, Moravian came from behind in the final three innings to win 4-2, getting three home runs in the final innings. In the 4-0 win against Johnson & Wales, the Greyhounds put up three runs in fourth to protect a two-hit shutout by pitcher Josie Novak.
Last time we met
These teams squared off on Friday in the first game of the regional with Salisbury earning a 3-2 win in eight innings. Salisbury held a 2-0 lead before the Greyhounds drew even against Sea Gull starting pitcher Rachael Milligan in the sixth. The game was square in the eighth inning when Cat Ramagnano's single brought home Sami Mumford for the 3-2 lead and Milligan finished off her complete-game victory retiring the side in order in the bottom of the eighth. Milligan struck out a career-high nine batters in the game. With the win, Salisbury improved its all-time record against Moravian to 11-6.
Rain, rain go away
The regional has been interrupted twice due to rain. On Saturday, the day was expected to start at 10 a.m., but eventually moved back to 1 p.m., due to rain. Two complete games were played, and the final game of the day between Moravian and Johnson & Wales was able to get through three innings before being suspended for the night. That game was completed on Sunday morning, but no more softball was able to be played leading to the Monday completion. Monday's forecast in Ewing, New Jersey calls for temperatures in the 70s and clouds, but minimal chances of rain during the day.
The advancing team out of this regional will play the winner of the regional being played at Rowan University, between the No. 14 Profs and No. 5 Randolph-Macon College in a super regional next week. Being played at Rowan, that regional is also expected to conclude on Monday, with the Yellow Jackets the undefeated team, but their championship game was suspended due to rain in the fourth inning, with no score. They will resume at noon.
