Softball blasts four home runs in doubleheader sweep
The Salisbury University softball team swept its Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Southern Virginia University by scores of 17-2 and 11-2 with both games ending in five innings. In the opener, starting pitcher Rachael Milligan struck out five in her three innings of work to earn the victory. The Salisbury offense got all it needed in the first few innings, scoring twice in the first on Annie Pietanza’s single. In the second, LeAnne Collins drove a ball through the right side to drive home Kaila Beach. Collins went 3-for-3 in the game, scoring four times and driving in three. She belted her second home run of the year in the third inning. Caitlin Lake was also 3-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two. Freshman Emily Allen blasted her fifth home run of the year, this two-run shot in the second as Salisbury rolled to the win. In the second game, the offense stayed hot. Kaila Beach belted the first home run of her Salisbury career, this solo shot to lead off the third inning. Beach went 3-for-3 in the contest. Kristen Yanarella make it back-to-back with her first of the year, as well. Brooke Yerger was 2-for-2 at the plate and scored twice. On the day, she reached base in all five plate appearances and scored five times. Salisbury returns to action on Sunday, April 2, hosting Frostburg State University in a CAC doubleheader that will begin at 1 p.m.
