LOUISVILLE – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association narrowed its list for the Division III Softball Player of the Year Watch List and Salisbury University junior LeAnne Collins has joined the group, the organization announced Friday.
Collins has been a mainstay at the top of the order for Salisbury, where she is batting a team-high .527, which ranks in the top 20 in the nation, having scored a team-high 47 runs and driven in 29. Collins has raced out seven triples, which is third in the nation.
Defensively, Collins is a stalwart in right field, letting few balls sent her way hit the ground. Her speed has allowed her to run down balls in the gap and down the line, as she has recorded a .973 fielding percentage and notched a pair of outfield assists.
The watch list will be cut to 10 finalists next month with the Player of the Year being announced at the conclusion of the season.
