Softball picked to defend CAC title in 2017 by league coaches

YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its preseason coaches' poll for softball on Friday, and Salisbury University has been tabbed to defend its 2016 title.

The Sea Gulls picked up 46 points and four first-place votes to take the top spot in the poll, followed closely by Christopher Newport University, which garnered 45 points and four first-place votes.

Frostburg State University picked up 36 points to land at third in the poll, followed by York College of Pennsylvania and the University of Mary Washington, rounding out the top five.

Last season, Salisbury won the 19th CAC title in program history and advanced to the final game of the NCAA regional. The Sea Gulls went 37-6 and nine individuals were honored by the CAC with postseason awards.

Salisbury will open the season at the Grand Slam Tournament on February 25 and 26 in North Carolina before beginning play at the new Sea Gull Softball Stadium on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 hosting the Sea Gull Classic.
