LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Salisbury University softball team will head into the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 team in the nation, as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its final regular-season coaches' poll on Wednesday.
The Sea Gulls earned 192 points for the second spot in the poll behind No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan, which collected 200 points and all eight first-place votes for the second straight week.
The University of Texas-Tyler held at No. 3, with 184 points, and Berry College remained at No. 4, with 176 points. Luther College and Texas Lutheran University each grabbed 164 points to stay in a tie for fifth place in the poll, with no movement in the poll through the top 12 spots from last week.
Salisbury has been idle since the Capital Athletic Conference championship on April 23 when the Sea Gulls topped Christopher Newport University, which now sits at No. 10 in the poll, for the 19th CAC title in program history.
Salisbury is scheduled to open play in the NCAA tournament on Friday, May 13 against Haverford College at an NCAA regional hosted by Virginia Wesleyan.
