LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With a perfect run through the Capital Athletic Conference tournament last week, the Salisbury University softball team made a three-spot leap in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 Coaches' Poll, climbing to No. 2, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The Sea Gulls (34-4) find themselves only behind the unanimous No. 1 University of Texas-Tyler, which collected all eight first-place votes and 200 points. Salisbury was a unanimous pick for the second spot, with 192 points, as was Virginia Wesleyan at No. 3, which moved up one spot, with 184 points.
Berry College and Texas Lutheran University each received 168 points to earn a tie for fourth in the poll.
With the CAC championship, the 19th in program history, the Sea Gulls earned the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. The full field and matchups will be announced during the selection show on Monday, May 9. The tournament begins on Friday, Mary 13.
