LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Salisbury University softball team will host its first of two regular-season tournaments this weekend, and the Sea Gulls will do so as the No. 11 team in the nation with the first regular-season National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll released on Wednesday.
Salisbury received 119 points in the poll, just 10 points shy of No. 10 Alfred University. The University of Texas-Tyler sits at No. 1 on the poll, collecting 199 points and seven first-place votes while Christopher Newport University is No. 2, receiving 180 points and the remaining first-place nod.
Washington University in St. Louis sits at No. 3 with 177 points, while Tufts University and Emory University are tied for fourth with 162 points each.
The Sea Gulls earned two early-season wins against ranked opponents, topping Emory, then No. 18, and defeating then-No. 14 Virginia Wesleyan College, which has climbed to No. 7 in the latest poll.
The Salisbury Invitational will take place this Saturday and Sunday, March 5 and 6 with the Sea Gulls playing both Clarkson University and The College of New Jersey each day. The games times have been moved up by 30 minutes, with the first game on Saturday pitting Clarkson against Salisbury, beginning at 10 a.m. Games times for both days are now 10 a.m., and 12 and 2 p.m.
