WALDORF, Md. – Two members of the Salisbury University softball team will face some of the toughest competition in the world next week as junior Molly Simpson and senior Rachel Johnson have been selected to participate for a Maryland All-Star team which will take on Team USA.
The contest will be played on Thursday, June 18, at Regency Furniture Stadium, in Waldorf, Maryland, the home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The game will begin at 7 p.m., and will be followed by an autograph session featuring Team USA.
Johnson, a three-time All-American and the 18th player in NCAA Division III history to reach 1,000 strikeouts in the pitcher's circle, closed her four-year career in maroon and gold this season, leading Salisbury to the NCAA championship week for the third-consecutive year. She was 28-6 this season with a 1.31 ERA.
Simpson has been named to the All-CAC team in each of her two years as a starter at second base for the Sea Gulls. This year, she batted .286 with seven doubles, four home runs, and a team-high three triples.
This will be the second year that Johnson participates in the contest, having done so during the summer of 2014, along with three Sea Gull teammates. This will be Simpson's first appearance in the contest.
