Softball climbs to No. 4 heading to NCAA tournament

LOUISVILLE – The Salisbury University softball team will head into the NCAA tournament as the No. 4 ranked team in the nation, as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its final regular-season coaches' poll on Wednesday morning.

The Sea Gulls jumped up two spots to No. 4 this week with 168 points, following a week in which they were idle, leading up to the announcement of the NCAA tournament selections. Salisbury was picked as one of 16 NCAA regional hosts, and will be welcoming McDaniel College and No. 10 Virginia Wesleyan College to the SU Softball Field to open postseason play.

The top three teams remain the same this week, led by undefeated Tufts University, with all eight first-place votes and 200 points, followed by the University of Texas-Tyler and East Texas Baptist University, with 192 and 179 points, respectively. Luther College rounds out the top five, with 164 points.

Salisbury begins play in the regional this Friday, May 8, taking on McDaniel at 11 a.m. The Green Terror and Virginia Wesleyan take the field at 1:30 p.m., before the Marlins and Sea Gulls square off in the nightcap, scheduled for 4 p.m.
