YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its weekly awards for softball and Salisbury University senior Rachel Johnson capped her final regular season by being named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the 19th time in her career.
Johnson had a stellar week for the Sea Gulls, pitching in each of the team's four games this past week, registering three victories and a save, while not allowing an earned run in 16 innings of work. She surrendered just three hits during the four appearances, and did not walk a batter.
But the biggest accomplishment came as part of her 26 strikeouts for the week. The final punch out of her one-hit shutout against Catholic University of America on Sunday afternoon marked the 1,000th strikeout of her career, making her just the 18th player in NCAA Division III history to reach the milestone.
Johnson and the Sea Gulls now await the announcement of the NCAA tournament field on Monday, May 4, with hopes of earning an at-large bid into the tournament.
