LOUISVILLE – The Salisbury University softball team will begin 2015 as the No. 2 team in the country as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association revealed its preseason top 25 poll on Wednesday.
The Sea Gulls, who played in the 2014 national championship series, earned 188 points following a 44-5 campaign last season.
Defending national champion Tufts University, will begin the year as the unanimous No. 1 team, with all eight first-place votes and 200 points, while East Texas Baptist University (186 points), the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (170), and Christopher Newport University (163) round out the top five.
Salisbury and Christopher Newport are the only two Capital Athletic Conference teams to receive votes in the top 25 poll.
The Sea Gulls will open the 2015 season on February 28 at the Grand Slam Softball Classic in North Carolina. On the second day of the season, Salisbury will get a stiff test in No. 24 Piedmont College.
