LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its final coaches poll of the 2014 season, and after advancing to the championship game of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship, Salisbury University finished the year as the No. 2 team in the nation.
Salisbury won 11-straight games to run through the early rounds of the NCAA tournament and into the championship series against Tufts University. Salisbury grabbed a one-game lead in the best-of-three series against the Jumbos before Tufts came back to win the last two and the program's second national championship.
Tufts claimed the top spot in the post-season poll with all eight first-place votes and 200 points, with Salisbury a unanimous No. 2 with 192 points. The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) ranked third, with 174 points, while East Texas Baptist University (168 points) and the University of Wisconsin Whitewater (166 points) round out the top five.
