Johnson claims ECAC South Pitcher of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Tuesday and Salisbury University junior Rachel Johnson was honored as the organization's Division III South Co-Pitcher of the Week.

Johnson worked a pair of perfect games last week, not allowing a base runner in either of the five-inning wins against Wesley College or the University of Mary Washington. The Preston, Md., native struck out 21 of the 30 batters she faced in the two wins and ultimately pitched 12 1/3 consecutive innings of perfect softball.

On Monday, she was named the Capital Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her 3-0 effort, which included a win at Frostburg State University on Sunday, helping the Sea Gulls to a share of the CAC regular-season championship.

Johnson and the Sea Gulls begin play in the CAC tournament on Thursday at noon, taking on Frostburg State. The tournament will be played Thursday through Saturday at Christopher Newport University.
