Johnson earns sixth CAC Pitcher of the Week honor

YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly softball awards and for the third-straight week, and sixth overall, Salisbury University junior Rachel Johnson has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week, announced on Monday.

Johnson tossed a pair of perfect games and won a third time, helping Salisbury to a 6-0 week and a share of the CAC regular-season title. Johnson shut down Wesley College on Wednesday, striking out 11 of the 15 batters she faced, before she worked through the University of Mary Washington lineup in order on Saturday, striking out 10.

With the two perfect games this week, Johnson has now pulled the feat five times in her career, an NCAA Division III record, and her five solo no-hitters in 2014 is a Division III single-season record.

The Preston, Md., native picked up her third win of the week with a complete-game effort against Frostburg State University on Sunday.

Johnson has posted a 17-0 record this season, striking out 179 batters in just under 100 innings and has a 0.50 ERA.

Johnson and the Sea Gulls play next in the CAC tournament, this Thursday at Christopher Newport University. Salisbury is the second-seeded team, and will take on third-seeded Frostburg State University at 12 p.m.
