LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Salisbury University junior Rachel Johnson continues to make program history for the softball team, as she earned her third career National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Pitcher of the Week award on Wednesday.
This is her second NFCA pitcher of the Week award this season, having claimed the honor on March 12.
The Preston, Md., native was honored for her performance in four outings last week, where she posted a 4-0 record, including a perfect game and a no-hitter, while limiting opponents to a .050 batting average and surrendered just one earned run in 19 innings of work.
Johnson opened the week with a perfect game against Southern Virginia University, striking out 13 of the 15 batters she faced, and followed that with a no-hitter against then-No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan College. She has now been a part of eight no-hitters in her career and has three perfect games to her credit.
She picked up another win, in relief, agaisnt Virginia Wesleyan in the second game of the doubleheader before defeating York College of Pennsylvania to close out the week.
This season, Johnson leads the Capital Athletic Conference and is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in hits allowed per seven innings, shutouts, strikeouts, strikeouts per seven innings, and saves.
Johnson and the Sea Gulls will be on the diamond this afternoon, traveling to Wesley College for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
