YORK, Pa. – For the third-consecutive week Salisbury University junior Rachel Johnson has earned the Capital Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week award, the league announced on Monday.
Johnson helped Salisbury to a 4-0 week, starting two games and tossing complete-game shutouts in wins against Capital University and the State University of New York at New Paltz.
The Preston, Md., native struck out 21 this week to give her 81 for the season and 578 in her career, which allowed her to move past Erika Brittingham (2009-12) for second in program history in strikeouts.
Johnson surrendered just seven hits this week and maintained her 0.00 earned-run average for the year.
Salisbury increased its record to 14-0 with the four wins this past week, tying the 1999 squad for the best start in program history.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action next Sunday, March 23 as they travel to Newport News, Va., for the CAC-opening series against Christopher Newport University.
