YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its 2014 Softball Coaches Preseason Poll and Salisbury University is placed at the top of the list, the league announced Thursday.
The Sea Gulls, who played through to one of the final days of the NCAA Division III Softball World Series last year, were a unanimous first-place selection by the league coaches with seven first-place votes (coaches may not vote for their own team) and the maximum 49 points.
CAC newcomer Christopher Newport University, which Salisbury defeated three times in 2013 including in the NCAA regional, earned the remaining first-place vote and 43 points to open the season second in the poll, followed by No. 3 Frostburg State University (36 points), the team Salisbury defeated last season to claim the program's 17th-consecutive CAC title.
The University of Mary Washington (30 points) was predicted to finish fourth, just ahead of York College of Pennsylvania (25) and sixth-place Wesley College (17).

The Knights, as a second-year NCAA Division III provisional member, are not eligible for CAC postseason play, but will play a full league schedule.
