EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Junior first baseman Harley Hill and sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson were named to the NCAA Division III Softball Championships All-tournament team after the Sea Gulls three-win performance in Eau Claire, Wis.
Hill led the Salisbury offense with a .368 batting average and three RBIs in the World Series. The junior went 7-for-19 at the plate, earning a hit in each of Salisbury's five contests. Hill recorded two hits against Anderson (Ind.) University, going 2-for-3, while having a 2-for-5 performance in SU's second contest against the State University of New York at Cortland. Hill was just as strong defensively, with a perfect fielding percentage and 25 putouts.
Johnson earned a spot on the all-tournament team after going 3-2 in her five appearances for the maroon and gold throughout the championship tournament. The sophomore helped the Sea Gulls to two complete-game shutouts against Anderson and the University of Texas at Tyler with scores of 2-0 and 1-0, respectively. In her 29 innings worked, Johnson picked up 29 strikeouts and finished with a 1.93 earned run average.
The Sea Gulls concluded their season with an overall record of 42-4 with an unblemished Capital Athletic Conference record of 8-0. The program earned its 18th CAC title and went undefeated in the Salem, Va., NCAA regional round to advance to the program's seventh World Series while finishing in the top three. Salisbury saw its best finish since the 2005 season, when SU finished with a record of 44-6.
