CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Johnson took to the circle for the Sea Gulls in five of six games last week, picking up four wins and one save. The sophomore set a new-career high in strikeouts with 17 against Catholic University of America and then repeated the effort against Stevenson University.
The Preston, Md., native earned her first victory of the week in pitch perfect fashion, fanning 12 Wesley batters of 21 faced. Johnson did not allow a walk or a Wolverine to get on base in the contest to earn the perfect game, the first of her collegiate career.
Johnson would come in as relief in game two against Stevenson to pick up her second save on the season.
The sophomore pitched 26 innings throughout the week with 51 strikeouts, allowing just one run and only five hits.
Salisbury (30-2, 6-0 CAC) finishes out its regular season this week with two home doubleheaders. First for SU is Gettysburg College on Thursday, April 18 followed by the final Capital Athletic Conference contest against Frostburg State University on Saturday, April 20.
