YORK, Pa. – Salisbury University sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson was named the Capital Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the sixth time this season, the league announced on Monday.
Johnson tossed a perfect game in her first of five appearances in the circle last week against Wesley College, striking out 12. She then went on to blank Catholic University of America on Saturday as the Sea Gulls went on to win 4-0. Johnson set a new career high in the contest with 17 strikeouts.
The Preston, Md., native would earn the second win of the day against Catholic before taking to the circle on Sunday against Stevenson University, where she faced 22 Mustangs, fanning 17. Johnson then came in as relief in game two against the Mustangs and picked up her second save on the year.
For the week, Johnson recorded 51 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched while scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run to touch home.
