LOUISVILLE, KY. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the most recent NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll on Wednesday and after a week off from play the Salisbury University softball team continued its rise in the poll, moving up one spot to No. 9. The Sea Gulls are now tied with Linfield College.
Salisbury (16-2) last competed on March 16 in a doubleheader against Ithaca College and the State University of New York at Cortland in the Salisbury Invitational. The maroon and gold picked up two victories on the day and scored a combined 19 runs in 12 innings while the stellar SU pitching staff and defense allowed no runs.
The Sea Gulls are tied with Linfield as each institution earned 138 points in the poll.
Montclair State University continued its reign as the No. 1 team in the nation collecting all eight first-place votes and 200 points for the second consecutive week, as Emory University (191 points) stayed put at No. 2.
The top five teams saw little change as Illinois Wesleyan University (180 points) and the University of Texas at Tyler (172 points) flip-flopped positions to claim the third and fourth slot, while Trine University (169 points) remained the No. 5 team in the nation.
SU returns to play today against the No. 21 Captains of Christopher Newport University in doubleheader action in Newport News, Va. Salisbury last swept CNU at the Captains Softball Park on March 13, 2007 with scores of 13-12 and 10-5.
