YORK, Pa. – For the third consecutive week sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson was named the Capital Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Johnson made three appearances, in which she went 3-0, in Salisbury's four games last week, with two starts. The sophomore earned two shutouts against Capital University and Ithaca College to now have seven shutouts on the season.
In Salisbury's (16-2) first contest against the State University of New York at Cortland, Johnson entered the circle in the fourth inning with the Sea Gulls down by two and kept the Red Dragons off-balance, allowing the SU offense to come back and earn the win 8-2.
The Preston, Md., native pitched 15 1/3 shutout innings last week in which she walked two, allowed eight hits and struck out 30.
Salisbury will take a brief hiatus in action and return to the field on March 27, when they head down to No. 12 Christopher Newport University to take on the Captains in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
