Salisbury secured the No. 8 spot in the preseason poll with 133 points. The top three teams include top-ranked Linfield College (51-3) with 200 points and all eight first-place votes, No. 2 University of Texas-Tyler (40-13) and Christopher Newport University (38-12).
Throughout the 2012 season, Salisbury will face two preseason ranked opponents. The Sea Gulls will host No. 3 Christopher Newport in their home opener on Tuesday, March 6, in a non-conference doubleheader. Then the maroon and gold will go up against No. 25 Virginia Wesleyan College in a non-conference battle at the SU softball complex on Wednesday, March 14. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Salisbury will first take the field against Piedmont College in the Methodist Early Bird Tournament, hosted by Methodist University. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.

Sea Gulls set flight at No. 8 in the nation
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Salisbury University softball team will start the 2012 season off as No. 8 in the nation as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released the Division III Top 25 Preseason Poll this week.
The maroon and gold ended the 2011 season with a 36-6 overall record. The Sea Gulls won their 15th consecutive Capital Athletic Conference championship and went on to make a run in the NCAA tournament.
