Gravdahl, Leary and Read all named ECAC South-Region All-Stars
CAPE COD, Mass. - The Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its Division III All-South Region teams recently and three members of the Salisbury University softball team were named to one of two All-Star teams.
Freshman outfielder Michelle Gravdahl (Ellicott City, Md.) and junior pitcher Kelly Leary (Severn, Md.) were each named to the first team while freshman infielder Carly Read (Baltimore, Md.) was named to the second team.
Gravdahl had an impressive first season with the Sea Gulls as she played in all 40 games with 39 starts. The Ellicott City, Md., led the team in batting average (.474), hits (54), doubles (16) and on-base percentage (.538). Gravdahl was equally impressive in the field as she finished with 31 putouts, one assist and just one error for a .970 fielding percentage.
Leary posted a 20-1 record and 0.79 earned run average in her first season with the Sea Gulls. The Severn, Md., native made 28 appearances, had 22 starts, threw 14 complete games and posted two saves in 128.2 innings pitched this season. Leary fanned 162 batters and limited opposing teams to a paltry .157 batting average in 2010.
Read appeared in 32 games with 16 starts for Salisbury in 2010. The Baltimore, Md., native finished with a .385 batting average, 14 runs scored, .462 slugging percentage and a .478 on-base percentage. Read was a defensive stalwart for the Gulls as she finished with 27 putouts, 35 assists and just three errors for a .954 fielding percentage.
Jen Goslin of Neumann College was named South Region Player of the Year while Lauren Davis-Macedonia of Ursinus College was named the Pitcher of the Year for the region. Centenary College freshman Cara Montferrat was named Rookie of the Year and Stacey Hollinger of Lebanon Valley College took home Coach of the Year honors.
