SU moves up five spots to break into Top 10 in latest NFCA poll

STARKSVILLE, Miss. - The latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll was released Wednesday and Salisbury University jumped five spots into the Top 10 at No. 9. The Sea Gulls (34-4), winners of 30-straight games, have moved up 10 spots in the poll over the last two weeks. SU received 136 total points.

Linfield College (36-4) reclaims the top spot after it dropped from No. 1 to No. 2 in last week's poll. The Wildcats received five first-place votes and 194 points. There was a tie for second place in this week's poll. Central College (34-4) moved from No. 4 to No. 2 as the Dutch collected one first-place vote and 188 points. Former No. 1 East Texas Baptist University (35-5) dropped to No. 2 as the Tigers received two first-place votes and 188 points. University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (34-3) moved from No. 7 to No. 4 as it received 158 points. The Jumbos of Tufts University (35-1) collected 156 points and round out the top five.

Louisiana College (32-6), which was once ranked No. 1 for two consecutive weeks, dropped from No. 2 to No. 11 as the Wildcats garnered 113 points.  

Salisbury, who is ranked second in the Atlantic Region, will now wait for the official announcement of the 2009 NCAA Division III softball tournament field next Monday, May 4, at 11 a.m. to see if the Sea Gulls will make a 14th appearance in the tournament. SU has already been selected as the host of the Atlantic Regional which will run from May 7-11 at the SU Softball Complex.
