Kelsey Mills picks up two more Player of the Week awards

CAPE COD, Mass. - Salisbury University sophomore softball pitcher Kelsey Mills added two more awards to her resume after an impressive week in the circle for the Sea Gulls. Mills was named Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Region Pitcher of the Week and Division III Softball - The Newsletter Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week. On Monday the Frederick, Md., native was named the Capital Athletic Conference Softball Player of the week.

This is the first ECAC Player of the Week award for the SU softball program this season and the second time a Sea Gull has earned the Division III Softball-The Newsletter Regional Player of the Week. Junior catcher Lauren Brenneman garnered the award on March 12.

Mills had an outstanding week for the Sea Gulls (13-4) as she threw back-to-back complete game no-hitters and recorded one save. In the first game against SUNY Plattsburgh, Mills was one error away from her first collegiate perfect game as she struck out nine batters. At the plate she went 1-for-2 with one RBI. In the second game against then No. 23 Ithaca College the sophomore came in to relieve senior pitcher Stacy Davis with a 5-2 lead. Mills recorded the final three outs and even struck out one Bomber batter to earn the save. Mills returned to the circle the next day and won 11-0 as she tossed her second consecutive no-hitter, third this season, against SUNY Geneseo. Against the Knights, Mills faced 22 batters and struck out a career-high 13 and walked one batter. For the weekend, Mills threw 15 scoreless innings, struck out 23, walked one and surrendered no hits as she posted a 2-0 record and one save.

For the season, the sophomore has a 5-2 record where she has pitched 43 innings, struck out 50 batters, allowed eight runs on eight hits and leads the team with a 1.30 earned run average.
