O'Gara named CAC Softball Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference player of the week awards on Monday and Salisbury University senior Meaghan O'Gara was named the softball recipient for the week of April 6. This is the first time O'Gara has been honored with this award in her four-year career at Salisbury.

O'Gara led No. 18 Salisbury to a 6-0 record last week. For the week, she batted .600 (9-for-15) with 10 RBIs, six runs, and two home runs. Her excellence did not stop there as she also added three stolen bases. The Northport, N.Y., native hit a two-run walk-off home run in Salisbury's 9-1 victory over University of Mary Washington on Saturday. The co-captain was a combined 5-for-5 with four RBIs, two stolen bases and three runs in SU's doubleheader sweep of Stevenson University on Thursday.

Through 27 games this season, O'Gara leads the team in several offensive categories including batting average (.478), doubles (10), on base percentage (.532), RBIs (31) and slugging percentage (.884). The co-captain has hit safely in 23-of-27 games this season.

Salisbury has won four of the last five CAC Softball Player of the Week awards including the last three this season. Junior catcher Lauren Brenneman was honored on March 30 while sophomore pitcher Kelsey Mills received the honor on March 23. Brenneman received her first distinction on March 9.

Salisbury will next face Gallaudet University in a CAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 7, at Sea Gull Field with the first game scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
