NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Capital Athletic
Conference announced its weekly conference athlete of the week
awards and Salisbury University sophomore Kelly
Waskewicz (Olney, Md./St. John's College) was named
the softball recipient for the week of April 14.
Waskewicz tied an unofficial Capital Athletic Conference record
on Sunday as the All-American shortstop slammed three home runs in
one game against Hood College. She set a new conference mark with
15 total bases in the 8-2 win over the Blazers. She also tied the
conference mark for hits in a game (four) and was two RBI shy of
the record of nine.
Waskewicz is one of the nation's leaders in home runs with 15
for the season. She is one shy of tying the SU career record
of 33. For the week, she batted .571 (12-for-21) in six games. She
had four home runs, nine runs scored, 11 RBI, two doubles, five
stolen bases and one hit by the pitch.
This is the second time this season SU's softball team has been
honored with this award as junior pitcher Stacy
Davis was selected on March 14.
