Men's tennis closes out three-win weekend with 8-1 victory against Goucher

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team closed out its three-match weekend with an 8-1 win on Sunday afternoon, topping Goucher College at the Salisbury University Indoor Tennis Center.

The Sea Gulls (4-0) began the match with a doubles sweep, getting the first point from the freshmen pair of Ryan Santmyer and Brad Pappalardo at No. 3. The pair used a service break midway through the match and remained in the advantageous position until Pappalardo held serve to take an 8-6 win.

Senior Kelson Weber and sophomore Matthew Ryan combined for an 8-3 win at No. 2 and juniors Patrick MacLean and Alec Angradi held on for an 8-6 win at No. 1 for the 3-0 lead.

Junior Colt Williamson picked up the first singles point of the day for Salisbury, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and Weber secured the team victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3.

MacLean split his first two sets at No. 4, before taking the super tie breaker for the match 6-3, 2-6, 10-5.

Salisbury's final two points came is close matches with Ryan taking a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 and Pappalardo claiming a 6-0, 6-7 (4-7), 10-6 victory at No. 5.

The only point for the Gophers (2-2) came at No. 1 singles where Tetsuya Ota was able to hold off junior Ian Siew 6-4, 7-5.

Salisbury is back in action next Saturday, March 2, hosting Catholic University of America and No. 16 Johns Hopkins University.
