Sea Gulls drop California finale, 7-2, to Denison

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team closed out its annual spring break trip with a 7-2 loss to Denison University on Thursday morning.

The Sea Gulls collected a point at No. 1 doubles where senior Daniel Albers and junior Eric Spangler remained unbeaten at 10-0. The pair collected an 8-5 win to get things started for the team.

Senior Demetri Vrahnos and junior Shanon Gunther took a narrow loss at No. 2, falling 8-6, while senior Adam Goldberger and freshman Sean Ngo lost 8-1, at No. 3.

Spangler grabbed Salisbury's only point in singles play, winning the first set at No. 2, before finishing off the win in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.

Vrahnos took his singles match to three sets, at No. 3. He claimed the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second, 6-2, and seeing a third-set match tie-breaker go against him, 10-6.

At No. 1, Albers lost in the first set, 6-2, and nearly forced a third, before falling 7-5 in the second set. Gunther, Ngo, and Goldberger fell in straight sets in the bottom half of the order, with Gunther and Ngo taking three games apiece at the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively, while Goldberger won a pair of games at No. 6.

The Sea Gulls return to the east coast, and will be back in action on Friday, March 27, opening up Capital Athletic Conference play against Southern Virginia University in a match being played at the University of Mary Washington.
