SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University tennis teams swept Dickinson College, Saturday at the SU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The men's team took its match 7-2, while the women's squad picked up a 6-3 decision.
Men: Salisbury 7, Dickinson 2
Salisbury (3-1) picked up 8-2 wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, from the teams of junior Daniel Albers and sophomore Eric Spangler, and junior Demetri Vrahnos and sophomore Matthew McGaffney, respectively.
Salisbury picked up straight-set victories in each of its winning singles matches. In the No. 1 position, Albers won 6-3, 6-4. At No. 2, Spangler was victorious 6-1, 6-3, while Vrahnos picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3. McGaffney was victorious in the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-3 to secure the victory.
Clark Chapman and Steven Kaplan picked up singles victories for Dickinson (0-1).
Women: Salisbury 6, Dickinson 3
The women's team also swept doubles play against Dickinson (0-2). In the No. 1 position, sophomore Natalie Savage and junior Roxanne Alban picked up an 8-4 win. Juniors Allison Lutz and Katie Youlios played in the No. 2 position and were victorious, 9-7.
Savage was slotted in the No. 1 spot and won 6-1, 6-2 in singles. At No. 2, Alban earned a point with a 6-3, 6-1 win and Lohn came out ahead from the No. 5 position, 6-2, 6-2, for Salisbury (3-2).
Sydney Diamond, Madison Parks and Joana Nunes earned singles wins for the Red Devils.
Both Salisbury teams will next be in action during their spring break trip to southern California. The women's team's next match is Monday, March 17 against Chapman University, while the men's team will take on Occidental College on Tuesday, March 18.
